A lecture in classical philology by the newly appointed Professor Kappelmacher was rudely interrupted by a band of pan-German students who invaded the lecture hall, shouting, “Out, you Jew swine!” Professor Kappelmacher, realizing the situation had got beyond his control, escaped.
It was only after the riot in the lecture hall that the Rector issued a warning threatening severe punishment in the event of a repetition of disorders.
