The largest public hospital in Panama, the Santo Tomas Hospital, has expressed its official appreciation of the response of the Jewish community to an appeal for replenishing of the hospital’s blood bank, which was at a perilously low level. A blood-donor drive organized by the local B’nai B’rith lodge has succeeded in securing the cooperation of the bulk of Panamanian Jews. Although the lodge requested that its name not be mentioned in connection with the drive, the hospital expressed its gratitude in a release sent to the local press.
