Marcel Regnier, French Minister of Interior, will shortly proceed to Algeria to conduct a first-hand investigation of the anti-Jewish riots which took place there recently, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned here today.
The decision to have the minister himself carry out the investigation was reached by the cabinet after listening to a report on the Algerian situation submitted by Jules Carde, French High Commissioner.
AWAIT PROBE RESULTS
A number of senators have contemplated making interpellations in Parliament in connection with the Setif riots a few weeks ago. They decided instead to defer such interpellations until M. Regnier returns from his investigation trip.
It is believed here that the growing discontent of the Moslem population in Algiers is largely inspired by Fascist agitators, who are attempting to stimulate anti-Semitism in the French colonies.
