The newspaper L’Ordre is publishing a series of articles on the contribution of Jews toward development of France since the 17th century. Among other things, they point out that Jewish immigrants in that country introduced the sugar industry to France and that another Jew, Benjamin D’Acosta, was the first to establish cocoa plantations.
At the same time, other French newspapers publish photos showing the care taken by the French military forces in helping Jews remove Holy Scrolls from synagogues in the Frontier zones. One picture shows two Alsatian rabbis carrying Torahs into military vans while others show French officers personally assisting removal of other religious inventory from synagogues in the military zones.
