The attack on the home of Dr. James Parkes was made by the Nazis who sought to steal information which the pastor of the American Church here allegedly possessed about provocateurs among refugees from Germany.
This theory was advanced by the police today, in addition to the theory that the invasion of the home of the clergyman was for the purpose of stealing documents which would discredit the Nazis at their trial, which opened today in Berne, on charges of spreading the anti-Semitic “Protocols of the Elders of Zion.”
The Swiss press is indignant at the terroristic methods of the Nazi agents, of which the victim this time was the servant of Dr. Parkes. Simultaneously, the Swiss press today reports that the government of Switzerland insists, in a note delivered to Berlin last Saturday, that if Berthold Jacob, German Jewish refugee who was kidnaped by Nazi agents in Switzerland, is not released, the case will be referred to the International Tribunal in The Hague as violating the German-Swiss Treaty of 1921.
