Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chairman of the Jewish Agency, whose flight back to the United States from a series of important conferences in Israel and Europe was delayed here because of heavy Atlantic fog, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that he had been assured the German-Israel reparations agreement would be submitted to the Bonn Parliament next week. Dr. Goldmann, who initiated the reparations talks, expected that parliamentary discussions of the agreement would end around mid-January.
Regarding the delay in opening the Austrian-Jewish negotiations for reparations, Dr. Goldmann said that although he regretted the delay, he understood the fact that two months before a national election the present Cabinet could not commit the new government. He said, however, that he expected the new Austrian Government to open negotiations without delay.
Dr. George Josephthal, Israel’s chief delegate to the German-Israel reparations negotiations, arrived in New York today from Tel Aviv. He will be a principal speaker at the annual national conference of the United Jewish Appeal, to be held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, December 12-14. Dr. Josephthal is the treasurer of the Jewish Agency and also director of its absorption department, which supervises the integration of refugee immigrants into the economic and social life of Israel.
