“The Shaw Commission was a severe disappointment for us, especially the way in which counsel for the Palestine administration acted. He did not attempt to probe the right and wrong of the case but solely endeavored to attack the Jews, going so far as to sneer at our dead. The Commission’s actions produced a state of uncertainty and alarm throughout the Jewish world such as is bound to seriously harm Jewish work in Palestine.
“The contributions of capital for further investments are naturally not forthcoming when the future and the very possibility of our work is drawn into question. The British government has repeatedly said that it means to carry out the Mandate. The Jewish National Home forms the central part of the Mandate and we look forward with confidence and hope to action by the British government to secure its establishment.”
