The question of defense of the proposed Jewish State is troubling Britain’s Palestine Partition Commissioners. judging by questions asked of witnesses by the commissioners. It was learned that persons testifying for the religious Agudath Israel were questioned at length on this point.
The commission is expected to wind up its inquiry here within a fortnight and return to London for further hearings. The commission, it was learned, has been carefully studying the possibilities of Jewish settlement in Transjordan and also the development and exploitation of the Negev, in southern Palestine, by a British company similar to the Hudson Bay Company, with Jewish workers and settlers.
The commission devoted much attention to the question of the Arab population living within the proposed Jewish State, it was learned, and was reported to have asked the Jewish Agency to submit a written statement of policy to be pursued toward the Arab inhabitants. It was learned that Agudath Israel witnesses were questioned on this issue.
