Peace with the Palestinians must come before peace with Syria, Israel’s deputy prime minister said. “We are not being ground down in a day-to-day conflict with them,” Ehud Olmert said of Syria. “The State of Israel cannot manage simultaneously two such complicated, demanding crises that have such great implications for our internal fabric,” he told Israel’s Yediot Achronot newspaper last Friday.
