Announcement was made here today that Kurt Peiser has resigned as executive director of the Jewish Welfare Federation of Detroit to become executive director of the Federation of Jewish Charities of Philadelphia. He has expressed willingness to remain in his present post until after the 1937 Allied Jewish Campaign to be held in May, in order to complete the program he has mapped for the current year.
The Detroit federation’s board of governors accepted the resignation “under protest” and with expressions of regret. Coming here in July, 1932, Mr. Peiser is credited with the building of the Jewish Community Center and other buildings, and with laying the groundwork for a Jewish Community Council.
In Philadelphia he will assume the post vacated when Dr. Jacob Billikopf resigned to become executive director of the National Coordinating Committee for Aid to Refugees and Emigrants Coming from Germany.
