The third week of popular priced grand opera at the Hippodrome will be inaugurated today with a matinee performance of Ponchielli’s “La Gioconda.” This will be the first Sunday matinee this season. During the week, Louisa Caselotti, newly-discovered American singer, will make her New York debut in the title role of “Carmen” on Tuesday night.
Two other singers wil make their Hippodrome debut, Lavinia Darvay and Greta Skoog in “Aida” on Friday night. There will be a new Gretel, Cecile Sherman, in the special Saturday matinee of “Hansel and Gretel” in English.
