The pro-Peron Jewish organization, organization Israelita Argentina, revealed in a statement issued today that President Juan Peron promised a delegation from the O.I.A. that the new Argentine constitution will include a clause asserting that “Argentina does not recognize any racial differences.”
According to the O.I.A. statement, Peron authorized the organization to in vestigate Jews applying for visas to enter Argentina and promised that those Jews who would be useful to the welfare of Argentina would be admitted. The O.I.A. statement said that President and Madame Peron have agreed to receive in the near future a Jewish delegation composed of representatives of the O.I.A., DAIA–central representative body of Argentine Jewry–and Zionist groups.Peron and his wife will also attend a banquet to be arranged by the Argentine Jewish community next month, the statement added.
Meanwhile, the official Argentine radio confirmed today that the Argentine Government has decided to recognize Israel and added that the formal announcement will be made by the Foreign Ministry. The broadcast pointed out that Argentina’s voting for the admission of the Jewish state to United Nations membership at the last session of the General Assembly in Paris was practically an extension of recognition to the Tel Aviv government.
