President Juan Peron, receiving a broadly representative Jewish delegation, today promised to take action in all cases of discrimination against Jews seeking to immigrate here.
Peron also assured the delegation, which was headed by Dr. Moises Goldman, president of the DAIA, central Jewish body, and included spokesmen for the Zionist Council, the Jewish Colonization Association, the United Central Committee and the HIAS, that the government was opposed to anti-Semitism and asked that anti-Jewish incidents be brought to his attention. He added that it was “difficult to prevent small, anarchistic groups from manifestations of hatred, which are condemned by the government.”
The delegation asked for visas for 1,000 children, which had been promised by the former government. Its request was turned over to Foreign Minister Juan Bramuglia, who was present. Peron also promised to facilitate the shipment of relief supplies to Jews in Europe “within the limits of the normal export program.”
The Argentine president, at the same time, reaffirmed his government’s support for the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine.
