The Government of Peru today granted full recognition to Israel, a cable received by the Jewish Agency office here reported. Peru’s action makes her the 38th nation to have extended de facto or de jure recognition to the Jewish state.
Israel has now been recognized by 38 countries, of which 32 are member states of the United Nations. De jure recognition was extended to Israel by 25 countries and de facto recognition by 13. Eight of the U.N. states are members of the Security Council.
