Peruvian officials are saying an Israeli hiker was murdered. The body of Tamar Shahak, 22, was discovered Monday in a rural area of southern Peru. Initial investigations at the scene found that Shahak had been strangled, apparently during an armed robbery. Israel Radio reported that she was an announcer for Army Radio and a correspondent for the Walla Web site. The killing follows closely the deaths of five young Israeli tourists in a car crash in Bolivia. South America is a popular travel destination for Israelis after they finish their mandatory military service.
