Progressive circles here are concerned at a wild campaign of anti-Semitism which has been launched here by the weekly newspaper Cascabel. The paper publishes in its current issue a lengthy editorial urging the government not to admit even a single Jew and to take measures, if possible, to expel those now here.
Cascabel, which represents no political party, says that “Hitler was right,” adding that the day will come when “there will have to be a mass-killing of Jews.” It charges that Jews are responsible for “all the problems we now have to face, including the housing shortage and the lack of foreign currency.” The weekly says that Hitler was correct in stating that the world must divide itself into two groupings: “the Nazis and the Jews.”
