Rep. William J. Green, Jr., of Pennsylvania, today called the attention of the House of Representatives to a resolution unanimously adopted by the City Council of Philadelphia calling on Congress to modify the McCarran-Walter Immigration Act. A copy of the City Council resolution was sent to President Eisenhower.
The resolution, introduced by Councilman Victor H. Blanc, criticized the law for failing to provide fair immigration quotas among the nations of the world, for permitting discriminatory practices based on color and religion, and for failing to provide fair hearings or appeals on deportation proceedings.
