Jewish organizations in Philadelphia have been urged to defer all special fund-raising drives and give full priority to the 1958 United Fund Campaign, a general drive to raise $13,500,000 of which nearly $2,000,000 will be allocated to the Federation of Jewish Agencies of Greater Philadelphia.
Abraham L. Freedman, president of the Federation, made the appeal in a public message asking for a moratorium on “all other causes and campaigns” for the duration of the United Fund drive which will begin October 1.
The appeal cited a resolution approved by the Federation Board of Trustees asking Jewish organizations not to conduct any fund-raising programs during both the United Fund drive and the Allied Jewish Appeal campaign in the spring. The United Fund drive will end November 14.
The message to Philadelphia Jewish organizations noted that the United Fund provides support for the 19 local health and social services of the Federation, as well as such general welfare causes as the Community Chest, Salvation Army, Mental Health Association and similar service groups.
