The first anniversary of the book-burning debacle in Germany on May 10, 1933, will be remembered here Thursday evening at a protest meeting in the Garrick Theatre.
Speakers include Roger Baldwin, Dr. Jesse H. Holmes, professor of philosophy at Swarthmore College; Rabbi William Fine-shriber, Rev. Griffin, and Edward Dahlberg.
Rev. McCallum will preside.
The meeting has been called for the purpose of keeping fresh in the public mind the significance of burning of literarary masterpieces in Germany last year to the world of culture. A protest meeting is expected to be called on May 10 in future years.
Thursday’s meeting has been arranged under the auspices of the Philadelphia Relief Committee to Aid the Victims of German Fascism.
Proceeds of the gathering will be used to further the relief work of this group.
