The strike of physicians and other professionals employed by the government or the national institutions went into its third day today without any formal contact between the government and the strikers. Minister for Religion Moshe Shapira is known to have held private conversations with strike leaders but the latter are known to have rejected a solution he offered.
The health situation is deteriorating, Ministry of Health officials said today. They noted that except for emergencies hospital patients received no medical care and that out-patient services were not operating “properly.” Several hundred patients have been discharged from hospitals in these three days, but only emergency cases have been admitted.
