A pigeon was shot down near Paris with this message in French attached to its leg: “This bird left Poland on Jan. 3 to regain a free land since birds cannot endure Nazi barbarism and tyranny. (Signed) The Students Committee.”

The pigeon was not dead. The man who shot it down took the bird home to nurse it back to strength and fulfill the wishes of those who had released it in Poland.
