The 17th biennial convention of Pioneer Women, the Women’s Labor Zionist Organization of America, opened here today in the presence of 600 delegates representing the organization’s 40,000 members throughout the United States and Canada. During the four-day parley, convention delegates will discuss Jewish life in this country and chart the course of the 36-year-old organization’s educational and social service programs in the United States and Israel for the next two years.
Included among the speakers at the four-day conclave are Avraham Harman, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States; Senator Joseph S. Clark of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Arthur J. Goldberg, wife of the U.S. Secretary of Labor and a long-standing member of the organization; Mrs, Ogden Reid, wife of the former U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Major Joseph M. Barr of Pittsburgh and Mrs. Clara Leff, president of Pioneer Women.
A special guest at the convention, representing the Working Women’s Council in Israel will be Yocheved Dostrovsky Kopernik, director of the Academy of Music in Jerusalem and a member of the advisory committee of the Ministry of Education.
