Pioneer Women, the women’s Labor Zionist organization, of America, today announced the completion of its 1958 quota of $1,000,000 for Israel, plus a ten percent special gift for Israel’s 10th anniversary. Mrs. Chaya Surchin, president of the organization, said that a cable to this effect was sent today to the Working Women’s Council in Israel, sister organization of the Pioneer Women.
Mrs. Surchin, who recently returned from an extended stay in Israel, said that this total effort on the part of the organization was made in response to Israel’s growing needs for the integration and absorption of new immigrants–of whom 40,000 women, youth and children were being given training, guidance and varied social services in the network of more than 500 institutions now being maintained in Israel through the Working Women’s Council.
