plaints by persons who were boycotting German goods because of that country’s persecution of Jews and some Gentiles. These people claimed that goods were being imported from Germany with a stamp of origin that led buyers to believe the goods were not of German make when actually they were.

At the Treasury Department it was stated that the objective of the new regulation is to require the use of more universally known markings on imported goods. The regulation applies to goods imported from any foreign country.
