Plans to export to the United States Polish goods made by Jewish artisans were formulated here today at a conference of Jewish artisans at which the economic plight of Polish Jewry was discussed.
It is the belief here that many Jews in America will buy Polish-made goods if they are certain that the articles were produced by Jewish artisans. The Polish Government, it is expected here, will greatly encourage the export to America of products made by Polish Jews.
At the same time Jewish merchants here are very much perturbed by a new plan which is being put forward by the authorities requiring that all persons engaged in trade should submit proof of their qualifications.
FEAR DISQUALIFICATIONS
It is feared that in this way many Jewish merchants and traders will be disqualified, with the result that one of the last economic positions remaining open to the Jewish population will be closed to large numbers of them.
The scheme was brought up about a year ago, as part of the Industrial Law, with a view to setting up a license system to prevent anyone not in possession of a trading license from engaging in trade. Following the vigorous protests of the Jewish population, however, it was withdrawn.
