The State Department announced that the Carter Administration’s proposed package sale of war planes to Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Israel will go before Congress April 26. Both the Administration and Congress are poised for what may be a prolonged and bitter fight over the package which has already drown fire from many Congressmen as well as American Jewish leaders. The basic contention of those opposing the package is that it will upset the Mideast balance in favor of the Arab states and that an earlier promise by the U.S. to sell planes to Israel was not linked to any package deal.
