Testimony concerning a bizarre one-man plot to assassinate former Premier Moshe Sharett for having allegedly handed over a Hungarian Jew to the British as a German spy was heard in court here today during the trial of three men charged with the murder of Dr. Israel Kastner, controversial figure in the Jewish community of wartime Hungary.
Ariel Alashvilli, a self-styled one-man underground movement and spy for the Israel secret service, testifying as a government witness against Jacob Heruti, one of the defendants, said that he had prepared a bomb to send Mr. Sharett, but was dissuaded from doing so by Mr. Heruti whom he met while en route to the post office to mail his deadly parcel. Alashvilli, who later joined the “Fighters for Israel’s Kingdom” underground movement, says he made the bomb from a heavy book from which he removed the pages, replacing them with explosives.
