THE NEW PALESTINE ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A POLITICAL BASIS FOR IMMIGRATION WAS DENOUNCED AS ILLEGAL IN A RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY A RISING VOTE AT THIS AFTERNOON’S SESSION OF THE THIRTY-FIRST ANNUAL CONVENTION OF THE POALE ZION-ZEIRE ZION.
THE RESOLUTION DEMANDED THAT THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT ABIDE BY THE DECISION OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS COUNCIL AND THE DECLARATION OF FOREIGN SECRETARY ANTHONY EDEN IN GENEVA THAT THE PRINCIPLE OF ECONOMIC ABSORPTIVE CAPACITY WOULD NOT BE ABANDONED.
“THE LATEST DECISION OF THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT,” THE RESOLUTION SAID, “IS A BETRAYAL OF BINDING POLITICAL AND MORAL OBLIGATIONS AND AN INTOLERABLE ABUSE OF TRUST CONFIDED IN BRITAIN BY THE JEWISH PEOPLE AND THE LEAGUE MEMBERS.”
BERL KATZNELSON, EDITOR OF DAVAR, ADDRESSING THE CONVENTION LAST NIGHT, DECLARED THAT THE FATE OF THE PARTITION PROJECT DEPENDED ON THE GENERAL INTERNATIONAL SITUATION AS WELL AS ON THE ACTION TAKEN BY THE JEWISH PEOPLE. HE SAID MUCH HINGED ON WHETHER THE DEMOCRATIC POWERS TOOK A VIGOROUS ATTITUDE TOWARD THE FASCIST FORCES.
