The first poisoned Israeli orange has turned up in Britain. Health officials said today that a Jaffa bought in London last week was found to contains small quantities of metallic mercury. They again advised the public to examine fruit before eating it.
Earlier, the Israel Citrus Board had told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that sales in Britain now appeared to be normal following last week’s discovery of poisoned oranges on the continent. In the past four days 250,000 boxes had been sold, the Board said.
