Poland said it wanted a quick solution to the problem created by the crosses recently erected by Polish Catholic fundamentalists near the site of the former Auschwitz death camp. Last week, the activists erected religious plaques on the some 240 crosses they erected earlier this year. The Polish government last month lost a court bid to take over the site of the crosses, which have been criticized by Jewish groups and the Polish Catholic Church.
