Why the Polish government closed the offices of the Agro-Yid organization, which stimulated emigration of Polish Jews to Biro-Bidjan, was officially explained by the authorities today to leaders of the organization.
Making it clear that an appeal may still be lodged against enforced liquidation of the organization, the authorities stated that the action was taken because the Agro-Yid did not observe its by-laws.
“The financial records and the membership lists show that the organization concentrated chiefly on stimulating Jewish emigration to Biro-Bidjan, at a time when, according to its by-laws, the aim of the organization was ‘to support Jewish agriculture in Poland,’ ” the authorities stated.
