A mob of Jewish beggars invaded the offices of the Executive of the Jewish Community today, demanding relief.
The police had to intervene to restore order, since the mob refused to leave the Community building without receiving immediate assistance.
Today’s invasion is one of the series of such attacks by beggars which have taken place during the last few weeks when the Jewish Community was left without means to take care of charitable institutions and was compelled to shut down its free soup kitchens due to lack of funds.
The number of Jews dependent upon charity and free kitchens has increased tremendously during the last month. It is estimated that more than one million Jewis in Poland—a third of the entire Jewish population—have been made dependent upon charity due to the heavy taxes which the Polish government is imposing.
