Police in Jerusalem went on high alert after officers shot and killed a Palestinian who ignored orders to stop at a roadblock. The extra measures came as security forces were already under a heightened state of alert throughout Israel following threats by Hamas to carry out terrorist attacks to avenge the death of its chief bomb-maker. The Palestinian Authority cleared Israel of any involvement in the murder of Mohiyedine Sharif.
