Police said that Sunday’s fire that forced the evacuation of several hundred guests and employes from the Dan Hotel was a cover for robbery. The blaze broke out in the Tiffany Club which occupies the basement of the 11 story structure on the Tel Aviv beach front. According to police the club’s safe was found opened and cash missing. Police said the safe was opened with a key but the thieves tried to make it appear that it had been forced open. The fire was set to remove the evidence of robbery, a police spokesman said.
