Police in Tel Aviv are searching for a man who they describe as a “lunatic” who has been shooting at bus passengers and people waiting for buses. The latest case occurred today when a 17-year-old girl from Holon was shot on a bus travelling from Tel Aviv to Holon. Police believe the assailant was the same person who wounded three passengers on a bus in southern Tel Aviv yesterday. Two of the persons were hit directly by bullets and the third by splinters.
Police at first said yesterday’s incident was a bomb explosion but later investigation found it to be a shooting. In both yesterday’s and today’s incidents the assailant was on the bus and escaped when the driver opened the doors to enable the other passengers to escape.
Two persons were injured in similar attacks last week, one at the Central Bus Station here and the other while standing at a bus stop near Tel Aviv. Police, who are using the help of psychiatrists in their investigation, said the gunman has either a 22 caliber gun or an improvised device capable of shooting bullets.
