The Polish Government is claiming the right to nominate three additional members to the Board of the Warsaw Jewish communal organization and has stated its intention of cominating three Assimilationists for membership so that all tendencies in Jewry should be represented. At the recent election to the Board of the Warsaw Kehillah, all the Assimilationist candidates were defeated.
The Club of Jewish Deputies has held a special meeting to consider the Governmen’s claim. Deputy Gruenbaum and Deputy Rabbi Levin contended that the law does not give the Government any right to nominate representative to the Board of the Jewish community. The representatives of all the parties on the new Board have decided that no persons nominated by the Government will be allowed to take their seats on the Board. A commission has been appointed, consisting of Deputy Gruenbaum, Deputy Rabbi Dr. Thon and Deputy A. Kirschbraun to corvey the decision to the Minister of Education and Publis Worship, and to ask him to withdraw the Government’s claim and allow the Board to co-opt three additional representatives.
