A number of items included in the budget of the Warsaw Kehilla have been questioned by the authorities who returned the budget to the Kehilla ordering them that these expenditures should not be incurred until satisfactory explanations had been given to the authorities.

The items questioned include the prize for literature of 2,000 zloty awarded for the best Hebrew and the best Rabbinical work during the year, the subsidy of 1,000 zloty for the Union of Litterateurs, 2,000 zloty for the Union of Hebrew Litterateurs and 2,000 zloty for the Jewish Arts Society. The subsidy granted to the Jewish Scientific Institute of Vilna of 100 zloty was cancelled altogether by the authorities who declared that the work of the Institute has nothing to do with the Jewish Community.
