Approximately 29,000 Jews emigrated this year from Poland to Israel, according to official statistics issued today by the Government in Warsaw. The emigration was. permitted, according to the official announcement, “in order to reunite families.”
The National Minorities Commission of the Polish Communist Party has criticized the Ministry of Art and Culture for inadequate activities in the Yiddish language, according to a report from Warsaw reaching here today.
The Ministry had been ordered to intensify and expand its work among national minorities “in the mother tongue” of each minority group. It has been told by the Communist Party’s Central Committee specifically to increase Yiddish lectures over the Polish radio, and to see to it that more books are published in the Yiddish language.
