The Association of Polish-Jewish ex-Serviceman in London protested today against proposals to free Rudolph Hess, Hitler’s one-time deputy, who is serving a life sentence as a Nazi war criminal.
Dr. Simon Friesner, chairman of the association, said “It is our considered opinion that it would be wrong to compromise on the life sentence of Rudolph Hess. He was one of the main architects of the mass murder of six million Jews and countless others. Any leniency shown Hess would encourage similar treatment to other war criminals and thus nullify the idea of war crimes.” Hess defected to Britain early in World War II and was brought to trial after the war.
