Reports in the Warsaw press that Nahum Sokolow, president of the World Zionist Organization, had signed a petition asking President Franklin D. Roosevelt to exercise pressure on the Soviet government to discontinue persecution of the Jewish religion, were denied today through the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
It was learned that the initiative for the petition came from the famous Chassidic Rebbe of Lubawitch, Rabbi Schneyerson. The petition is supported by the Agudath Israel, ultra-orthodox organization.
According to Moment, Warsaw Jewish daily, the Agudath Israel has begun to collect signatures for the petition all over Poland.
