Permission to raise funds for the relief of war sufferers in Poland has been received from the State Department by the Federation of Polish Jews in America, it was announced today by Samuel Untermyer, chairman of the Federation’s Emergency Campaign Committee. Mr. Untermyer also announced that M. Maldwin Fertig has accepted the chairmanship of the executive committee of the emergency campaign.
Z. Tygel, executive director of the Federation of Polish Jews, explained that chapters of the Federation throughout the United States will be allowed to engage in soliciting and receiving contributions for use in Poland, provided they conform with the rulings of the State Department as contained in the permit issued to the Federation. The funds raised by the Emergency Campaign Committee will be used for “medical aid and assistance and for food and clothing to relieve human suffering” in Poland.
The Polish Ambassador to the United States, Count Jerzy Potocki, will address the opening session of the third biennial world conference of the Federations of Polish Jews tomorrow night at the Hotel Astor. He will speak by long distance telephone from the Polish Embassy in Washington. The sessions will be opened by Benjamin Winter, president, and addresses will be made by Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Mr. Fertig, Mr. Tygel and others.
