The American Representation of Polish Jewry and the American Federation of Polish Jews today issued strong protests against an anti-Semitic statement made to the press in Mexico by Dr. Josef Retinger, private secretary of General Sikorski, the Polish Premier.
The protests quote Dr. Retinger as having stated to Mexico’s daily newspaper “Excelsior” that a delegation of Polish Jews in Mexico visited Gen. Sikorski “who indicated to the members of the delegation that he had received information as to the behavior of some of the Polish Jews.” Dr. Retinger then went on to tell the Mexican newspaper that the Polish Premier “emphatically told the Jewish delegation that their behavior was deplorable because the Polish Jews are guests of a country which received them in a most friendly manner.”
In protesting Dr. Retinger’s statement, the American Representation of Polish Jewry declares that the interview “is nothing more than anti-Semitic propaganda disseminated on the soil of a foreign land.” Polish-Jewish leaders in America have cabled to the Jewish members of the Polish National Council in London urging them to demand Dr. Retinger’s resignation as “a high representative of the Polish Government who is harming the interests of Poland and is smearing the good reputation of Polish Jewry.”
