Resolutions condemning threatened expulsion of Polish Jews from Germany, pledging support to Poland in the struggle against Nazi aggression and denouncing the new British policy on Palestine were adopted today at the 31st annual convention of the Federation of Polish Jews in America.
The convention, before adjourning to the New York World’s Fair for its final sessions tomorrow, reelected Benjamin Winter president and adopted a reorganization plan to conduct the federation’s campaign for $1,000,000 for the relief of coreligionist in Poland. The plan sets up an advisory board to direct the campaign, with Rabbi Joshua L. Goldberg elected as chairman. Herman B. Oberman was elected to the new post of executive vice-president and Zelig Tygel was reelected executive director.
Other resolutions condemned Poland’s treatment of refugees at Zbonszyn and other border points; pledged support to Poland in the struggle to preserve her independence; called upon American Jewry to give the fullest support to the federation’s $1,000,000 campaign in the coming year; endorsed efforts to further Poland’s exports to America; expressed disappointment on the failure of the four leading Jewish organizations to realize the Pittsburgh unity plan and pledged support to the American Jewish Congress in furthering efforts to create a united front of American Jewry.
Speakers at the opening session last night included Mr. Winter Mayor Borden of Bradley Beach, Chief Rabbi M.J. Colonkin of Danzing, and Dr. Henry Shoshkes, authority on cooperative banks in Poland.
