Jews are second only to Catholics in the number of soldiers in the Polish army which is now being formed in Soviet Russia under the command of the Polish General Wladyslaw Anders, official Polish sources reported here today.
Simultaneously, it was announced here today by Dr. Iganacy Schwartzbart, Jewish member of the Polish National Council, that he has submitted to the Polish government in London sixteen lists containing more than 2,000 names of Polish Jews known to have been held in Russia either as war prisoners or as interned refugees from Poland. “All these lists are already in the possession of the Polish embassy in Moscow and a number of the people mentioned therein have already been traced and released from internment,” Dr. Schwartzbart said, adding that more lists are reaching his office from all parts of the world.
The Polish authorities here, today, accepted a proposal which reached them from the Central Union of Polish Jews in Argentina suggesting the collection by the Union of clothing and other commodities for Polish refugees in Soviet Russia.
