Poland’s Assistant Minister of Internal Affairs, has agreed to ease obstacles in the path of Israel-bound Polish Jews seeking exit visas, according to the latest issue of the Folkshtimme, Warsaw Yiddish daily newspaper, received here.
The request to the assistant minister, H. Antonewitcz, was made by a delegation representing the Association of Jewish Cultural Societies. The delegation, according to the Warsaw newspaper, had acted following adoption of a resolution at a plenum of the association complaining that applicants for exit visas to Israel were encountering ” all sorts of difficulties at the hands of some officials.”
Mr. Antonewitcz assured the delegation, the newspaper reported, that directives on the matter would be issued to all government officials concerned, and that an effort would be made to expedite issuance of the visas.
In another article in the same issue of Folkshtimme, signed by Abraham Marevski, support is expressed to Israel. The writer declared:
“Whoever hated Hitler must greet the rise of Israel and rejoice in its every step of progress, development and strengthening. Whether Israel, in the current conflict, is an aggressor, or whether it is in a struggle with a foe that seeks to destroy it and denies its existence–that is a question we will not discuss here.”
