A proposal that the Polish government-in-exile proclaim as anti-constitutional and null and void the anti-Jewish laws promulgated by the pre-war Polish regimes will be discussed at Saturday’s session of the Polish National Council, which is the Polish parliament-in-exile.
The proposal was submitted by Dr. Ignacy Schwarzbard, Jewish member of the Council. It provides among other things for the cancellation of the law prohibiting Shechitah in Poland, and for the restoration of Polish citizenship to all Jews who were deprived of their passports under an anti-Semitic regulation that Polish Jews residing abroad more than two years automatically lose their citizenship. Many members of the Polish National Council, especially those representing democratic and socialist groups, are supporting Dr. Schwarzbard’s proposal.
