Premier Skladkowski, in an interview yesterday with Senator Moses Schorr and Deputy Emil Sommerstein, representating the Jewish Deputies Club, promised to protect Jews from attack and mete out severe punishment to anti-Semitic agitators.
Replying to charges that Jews were being subjected to economic discriminations and were insecure from anti-Semitic attacks, the Premier admitted the situation of the Jews had become worse, blaming the general density of population and the growth of political chauvinism.
“The Government is absolutely determined to maintain the principle of equal citizenship for all,” he said. “The life of every citizen in Poland is sacred, irrespective of creed or nationality.
“The Government is determined to call to account anyone guilty of violence against the Jews and anyone making it impossible for Jews to carry on their work. The Government regards the rousing of national passions and incitements of one section of the population against another as harmful to the State. It is determined to mete out severe punishment to all anti-Semitic agitators.”
