Polish Sejm Adopts Budget of Government; Rejects Jewish Deputies’ Motions

The preliminary budget of the Polish government was passed today by a majority vote in Parliament.

All motions introduced by the Jewish deputies were rejected. These proposals called for the admission of Jewish applicants to state positions, the recognition of the Yiddish and Hebrew schools, the granting of subsidies to the Jewish school and the enactment of legislation to make the practice of numerus clausus in Polish colleges impossible. The national Democrats, the Christian Democrats, the peasant party, Piast, and the progovernment bloc, combined to defeat the motions of the Jewish deputies. The national minorities and the Left parties voted for the proposals.
