The literary award of the city of Warsaw for the past year has been awarded to Dr. Szymon Askenazy, it was announced today. Askenazy, a well known Jewish writer, was acclaimed as the best Polish stylist and historian.
Dr. Askenazy is a specialist in history of the thirteenth and nineteenth centuries and is widely known for his monumental work, “Napoleon and Poland.” He is a professor at the University of Lwow and in 1921-22 was a delegate from Poland to the League of Nations.
Among his best known works are biographies of Prince Joseph Poniatowski and Valerian Lukasinski, and a study on “Danzig and Poland.” He is sixty-seven years old.
