Pope John Paul II blamed Catholic anti-Semitism for the passivity of many of its followers during the Holocaust. The pope, who made the remarks at a conference on anti-Semitism held over the weekend at the Vatican, did not criticize the church itself or Pius XII, who was pope during World War II.
